Family Literacy Night Stations
				- Read-Alouds: Gather around for exciting storytime sessions where students can listen to wonderful tales read aloud by teachers and special guests. Each story will transport you to a different world!
- Create Stations: Get ready to unleash your creativity at our craft and writing stations! Children can create their own stories, make bookmarks, or even design a book cover for their favorite read. The possibilities are endless!
- Book Swap: Bring your gently used books and swap them with others! This is a great way to refresh your child’s bookshelf and discover new books for everyone to enjoy.
- Games & Challenges: Literacy doesn’t just have to be about reading and writing—it can be fun, too! We’ll have various games, puzzles, and challenges that focus on literacy skills, from word games to spelling bees and reading riddles. You’ll have a blast while sharpening your skills!
- Write Your Story: Have you ever wanted to be a published author? Here’s your chance! Kids can write their own short stories and share them with the group. Whether it’s a tale of adventure or a creative work of fiction, your child will love expressing themselves through writing.
- Family Reading Picnic: Bring a picnic blanket to lie on the grass, where families can enjoy books together. This is a great spot to share your favorite stories or read a new book with your child.
Family Literacy Night FAQs
Q: What is Family Literacy Night?
A: Family Literacy Night is a free, fun-filled evening hosted by the Grant PTA. During this event, teachers open their classrooms to kids and their adults to participate in various literacy activities.
Q: Will there be food?
A: Yes! There will be pizza at NO charge! Please RSVP via the link above so we can have an accurate count. Kindly dispose of your trash in the bins around school and remember to bring a reusable water bottle. At the pizza tables, please consider making a donation towards the 5th grade science camp.
Q: Can we donate books?
A: Yes! There will be an opportunity to engage in a Book Swap in the Cafeteria. When donating, books should be gently used and elementary school appropriate.
Q: Can we join the event later than 5 PM? Do we have to stay for its entirety?
A: You are welcome to join the event at any time and may leave before it concludes. Please note that food will be served from 5:00 to 5:30 PM. Additionally, students can submit their completed passport between 6:45 and 7:00 PM to receive a small takeaway gift.
Q: Do I have to accompany my child to various classrooms?
A: Yes! This event is meant for kids and their adults to participate in the Literacy games and activities together. All kids have to be accompanied by an adult when visiting a class.
Q: What if the literacy activities and games are too advanced for my child?
A: Many of the activities can be adapted to match the skill level of your child. Using smaller words, drawings, or oral story telling are ways to make the games and activities easier for younger children.
Q: Do we have to participate in all the activities?
A: No! Your family can play as few or as many games as desired. For TK-K students, a minimum of 2 activities, and for grades 1-5, a minimum of 3 activities is required to receive a small prize.
Q: What if the classroom we want to visit does not have room for us?
A: Please move to your next choice of class and come back after the rotation is over.
Q: Can we leave the class and go to the next one as soon as we are done with the game?
A: No! There will be 4 rotations, each about 20 minutes. When the end of each rotation is announced, you may proceed to the next class of your choice. A schedule will be provided at the beginning of the event.
Q: How do kids show that they have completed the activities?
A: Kids will be provided a passport to collect stamps from the teachers upon completing each game. Please be sure to retain the passport and turn it in at the end of the event to collect a small prize.
Q: What are the prizes?
A: With a completed passport, all students will receive a small takeaway gift. Starting at 6:30 PM, please come to the Front Gate Table to drop off the passport. The passport submission will close at 7:00 PM (NO EXCEPTIONS).
