Valet Drop Off and Bike Parking

2026 Pilot

Starting Monday, October 26th

In response to concerns from parents about vehicle conflicts, lack of space for cargo bikes, and crowding, morning drop-off is changing!

MORNING DROP OFF VALET

  • Car valet is moving to a larger area west of the main entrance on Pearl St (along the school fence). Enter from the Cloverfield intersection for a longer, dedicated car line marked with traffic cones. The greeter will be there at the front of the line, opening doors. Additional “eyes on the street” will be available to watch your kids as they walk to the school entrance, including staff at the TK/K gate.
  • Dedicated bike parking on the street will be provided along the red curb at the Pearl St / 24th St intersection, cordoned off with traffic cones. No more bikes on the sidewalk or grassy areas during morning drop-off.

  • The school bus zone is now only for school buses. Drop-offs and parking there may be fined.

  • The east drop-off zone (no greeter) along the Pearl St parking lot remains unchanged. If you are turning onto Pearl from 24th St, or want to bypass the valet line for any reason, you can continue to drop-off there.

FAQs

Valet Drop-Off FAQ

Why the change? There have been longstanding issues with vehicle conflicts, crowding around the two Pearl St entrances (main entrance and TK/K gate), lack of space for large cargo bikes used by some parents, etc. Grant PTA identified the issues using an online survey of Grant parents asking them about the “before” conditions. This is a trial based on feedback.

What happens if there are unanticipated issues with the new arrangement? Can I provide comments or ask questions? As a pilot project, we are open to making changes or terminating the new arrangement and going back to the old system if needed. Comments and questions can be addressed to bikeitwalkit@grantpta.org. Expect also to see an “after” survey asking parents for their feedback about drop-off once everyone got used to the new system.

What time is valet drop-off? The cones and greeter will be available 8:00am – 8:30am every school day.

Can bikes join the car line? Cargo bikes coming east on Pearl St are encouraged to stay in the bike lane along the car line and continue straight to the dedicated bike parking area. “Through” bike riders can choose to take the lane outside the traffic cones, or stay in the bike lane but bypass the bike parking area. Both drivers and cyclists are encouraged to look out for each other at the lane shift points (start and end of the car line).

What happens if there is a vehicle left unattended in the car line? Traffic Enforcement will be contacted and attempts made to remove the vehicle as quickly as possible.

Will the valet line be available during inclement weather/special circumstances? We will do our best to provide the traffic cone setup daily. If due to weather, staff shortage, or other circumstances the car line is not set up, expect to still drop off in the same area, as you would do in any regular loading zone.
